The U.S. presidential election will take place in November 2024. The international order may change depending on who becomes the president in a polarized America. In the case of America First, Trump will likely focus more on trade issues and Biden will likely focus more on technological hegemony. The war in Ukraine, U.S. leadership on climate change, and trilateral cooperation between South Korea, the U.S., and Japan will also be affected by regime change in the U.S. If Biden wins all three competing states in the Midwest, a scenario could be possible that Biden will have an edge over Trump in the Electoral College race. We hope that the new U.S. will be a new opportunity for Korea to seek diplomacy that meets our elevated national dignity and consolidates national capabilities in the upcoming year.
