English Abstract

The Yoon Seok-yeol administration's responses to climate change will include maintaining Korea’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40% compared with its 2018 emission levels by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. As part of its climate change strategy, the new administration will seek to accomplish an optimal and realistic energy mix, with more focus on nuclear energy. In addition, the emphasis will be laid on expedited investment in and production of green/blue hydrogen to help industrial sectors with decarbonization processes.. In the future, the Yoon Seok-yeol administration should continue with many of the Moon Jae In administration’s climate change policy measures, whereas ensuring objectivity and transparency in making cost estimation for pursuing climate goals.
