English Abstract

China has focused on strengthening Xi Jinping's power and laying the foundation for a long-term regime rather than on foreign relations this year, thus intensifying the U.S.-China competition. President Xi is expected to continue his efforts to win three consecutive terms and strengthen his power through policy clarity and strong image, and the U.S.-China competition is expected to deepen next year. Therefore, the Korean government should set a new direction for Korea-China relations next year based on strategic analysis of U.S.-China relations, Korea's international status, national identity, interests, and changing national status.
