The era after the 9/11 terrorist attacks is often called the post-post-Cold War era since 

the international relations have fundamentally changed in many aspects. However, the most 

unique characteristic of the post-post-Cold War international order is the emergence of 

the US unilateralism as the dominant force in international relations. US became a sole 

superpower as the Cold War ended and it now holds a dominant position unparalleled in history. 

This US-led world order is most likely to be continued throughout 2004. It is predicted that the 

US will try to look for ways to restore its roles within the UN and to strengthen its relationship 

with the existing allies to continuously promote US-led world order. Therefore, countries of 

Northeast Asia are currently facing the challenge of coming up with the survival strategy under 

this new world order. This book purports to observe responses of Korea, China and Japan under this
