Northeast Asia is given a great deal of weight on the global economy in the 21st century. 

This region takes up one third of the world trade volume and one third of the world GNP. 

This research includes South Korea, China, Japan, Russia, North Korea and ASEAN as Northeast 

Asia, and also considers the US as well. Northeast Asian economic cooperation signifies gradual 

economic cooperation by sectors. Economic cooperation signifies national cooperation through 

economic exchanges, regional political diplomatic and socio-cultural exchanges, and it also 

signifies first steps to military security cooperation. This research intends to look into 

possibilities of regional cooperation in Northeast Asia such as FTA and IT cooperation, and also 

look into Korea’s role and strategy.
