The economic relationship between China and North Korea is intensifying. The relationship of these two countries was based upon an one-sided benefit relationship with Chinese support and aid. However, with increasing trade both at a government and civilian level, both parties are working to establish a reciprocal relationship. Since the official agreement was announced for the joint development of the Chanchun-Jilin-Tumen and Rason Economic Special Zone in 2010, the prospect for economic cooperation between the two countries has increased.
This present book focuses on the Chanchun-Jilin-Tumen and Rason Economic Special Zone, analyzing the state benefits that the two states seek and the future direction of the joint enterprise. The book is composed of four parts The first part proposes the perspective of the Chanchun-Jilin-Tumen and Rason joint development project. The development project is at the base of an intersection of economic·political·economic benefits and therefore it is important to conduct an overall examination of all perspectives. The second part provides a multilateral assessment of the meaning behind the Chanchun-Jilin-Tumen and Rason development project. The third part examines the development project's purpose and process from a North Korean perspective. Lastly, the fourth part provides comprehensive arrangement of the research and also proposes potential counter measures of the South Korean government.
Considering the importance of our government's North Korea policy and Northeast Asia policy, examining the essence and prospect of the DPRK-China economic cooperation is a significant task.
