Various approaches can be utilized in under-standing the politics of a nation. The study of political elites is one of these approaches. This book starts with the assumption that there exist elites in any society. However, the issue of who among the political elites should be the focus of study is another matter. As China, Japan, and Russia have different histories, cultures, and political systems, it is difficult to focus on any common group of political elites in the three countries. The writers of this book undertook research of elites whom they regarded as being the most important in the country they researched. Chapter one, written by Professor Jae Chul Kim, entitled, "The Forth Generation Leadership of China : New Political Elites?" analyzes the fourth generation leadership group that is presently taking root as the political elite in China. Myon Woo Lee wrote chapter two, which is entitled, "The Political Structure of the Koizuimi Government : Background of the Political Elite and Analysis of Their Political Tendencies." Dr. Lee emphasizes that the emergence of the Koizuimi government fore-bodes signs of change. In chapter three, entitled, "Putin's Leadership and a Study of Putin's Domestic and Foreign Policies," Hyun Ik Hong reviews the significance and characteristics of President Putin's leadership. Dr. Hong concentrates on how the Russian President's leadership will influence Russia's domestic and foreign policies.
