Peacekeeping on the Korean Peninsula is the most necessary factor for survival and prosperity for
all Koreans in South and North Korea, and a kind of important infra structure for the national
development of both Koreas. Organized by 7 chapters, this book deals with what is considered as
the best model for peacekeeping on the Korean Peninsula.
Chapter I is the introduction which arranges the rightness about peacekeeping on the Korean
Peninsula and the relationship between the sunshine policy of South Korean government and the
peacekeeping on the Korean Peninsula. Chapter II summarizes many peace theories, and arranges
the definition and kinds of peace, the kinds of conflicts, the models of conflicts, and the
situations for the escalation of conflict. The experiences and lessons from trying to keep peace
on the Korean Peninsula between South and North Korea are analyzed in Chapter III. The author
tries to draw some valuable lessons from the experiences of both Koreas to keep peace on the
Korean Peninsula. The international experiences and lessons to keep peace are drawn from those
of the Middle East cases between Israel and many Arab countries in Chapter IV.
The author analyzes what kind of models we may consider and how we can choose the best model
for peacekeeping on the Korean Peninsula in Chapter V~VII. We can see that there are 4 models
for peacekeeping on the Korean Peninsula: (1) peace by reconciliation/negotiation (Model 1);
(2) peace by security forces (Model 2); (3) peace by changing the quality of Kim Jong-Il regime
(Model 3); (4) peace by eliminating Kim Jong-Il regime (Model 4) in Chapter V. The strong and
weak points of each model are compared and evaluated in Chapter VI. Chapter VII analyzes points
that deserve our attention in 4 models.
The author argues that we should consider the whole situation of South Korea in choosing the
best model for peacekeeping on the Korean Peninsula, and choose the most reasonable model under
the standards of keeping peace on the Korean Peninsula.
