Through the national strategy related researches that are being heavily promoted at the Sejong 

Institute, this book intends to show the national-level, comprehensive system of action and plans 

that allow effective utilization of available resources within the strategic environment provided 

to fulfill national interests and objectives. Representative and opportune research papers that are 

divided into five chapters have been carefully selected and edited from those that were published 

in the National Strategy Journal for the last ten years. Chapter 1 titled Approaching National 

Strategy includes papers that concerns formation of national strategy; chapter 2 titled North 

Korea and Unification includes papers that deal with implications of the 2000 Inter-Korean Summit; 

chapter 3 titled Security and National Defense includes papers that are related to the Cold War 

order on the Korean peninsula; and chapter 4 titled Improvements in Politics includes papers that 

have to do with democracy and improvements of politics. At last, chapter 5 comprises papers related 

to national strategy in the economic and social sector.
