After the Cold War, the bipolar system of the United States and Russia had changed to and 

maintained as the unipolar system in which the US is the supreme power. However, China and 

Russia is now emerging as powerful nations that cannot be ignored. This research aims to 

predict international security environment that is influential to establishing Korea’s 

diplomatic policies in 2020, to establish strategic objectives to cope with that environment, 

and to suggest future policies by looking into (1) issues and changes in US forces in Korea 

and Korea-US Alliance, (2) Korea’s perspective on fast-emerging surrounding nations like 

China and Russia, and (3) Korea-Japan relations on regional level.
