EU-SOUTH KOREA RELATIONS UNDER THE EU INDO-PACIFIC STRATEGY
On August 10th, 2021, the Sejong Institute, with the support of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Korea (ROK), hosted an international closed-door expert workshop entitled “EU-ROK Relations under the EU Indo-Pacific Strategy.”1 The online workshop was designed to help enhance mutual understanding between the EU and the ROK of each other’s visions for the region and to seek areas of mutual interest. Particular attention was paid to the April 2021 EU Council Conclusions on an EU Strategy for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific as those represented the available precursor of the actual EU Indo-Pacific Strategy that was released on September 16th, 2021. The workshop followed the ‘Chatham House Rule’ and this report summarises the main lines of thought discussed during the workshop. As noted in this report, the informal discussions revealed considerable variations of opinions and priorities for EU-ROK cooperation among the workshop participants.
