South Korea’s recent success in industrial modernization and political democratization has also led to the nation attempting to join the rank of developed countries. On the other hand, under the Kim family’s dynasty dictatorship, North Korea’s pursuit for survival has led them to experiment with nuclear weapons and provocation, which ultimately may jeopardize the entire race on the Korean Peninsula.

  Disadvantaged regionally, surrounded by strong nations and located inside the proximity of North Korea’s long-ranged missiles, South Korea has to prevent the adventurous and aggressive North Korean regime in order to achieve peace inside the Korean peninsula, while constructing and practicing democracy, co-prosperity, and a developed unified nation has to be prioritized national task in the 21st century. 

  South Korea must ensure that the North Korean regime is dissuaded from conducting further military provocation, overcome challenges provided by North Korea’s prior provocations and geopolitical issues, and achieve peaceful unification by inducing the North Korean regime to take part through the assertion of wisdom and capacity. 

  In order to achieve this, South Korea has to reject the ethical, ideal, and one-way polices, and instead, has to implement a unification policy that emphasizes practicality and cooperation.

  First, the government has to actively try to solve the nuclear weapons issue diplomatically and use the process to strengthen the case for peace on the Korean peninsula.

  For this, the U.S.-South Korea alliance has to be stronger and must be sustained after unification, but the government has implement policy that would ensure China’s and Russia’s cooperation as well. 

  The balance of the U.S. and inter-Korean conventional army is also another issue in the peacekeeping system.

  Also, in order to achieve peace, trust among relevant countries is very important, yet it is not present; therefore, peace building process should be applied with mutual security and simultaneous action principle. 

  As long as South Korea believes that they have won the systematic competition against North Korea and keep the peace well and strongly believe North Korea will ultimately become part of South Korea, then the stable management for North Korea will be decided as the goal, and when the regime collapses, guaranteeing all territorial absorption and cutting down the cost to half will be the foremost goal. 

  To achieve this, first, normalizing the inter-Korean relationship must be a priority task, second, initiate reciprocal economic projects with the vision to further expand by broadening the partnership into industrialization, and lastly induce North Korea’s dependence on South Korea by prioritizing the economy rather than military. 

  In order to prevent North Korea’s provocation and enhance South Korea’s economically growth, we must establish a thorough national security posture to dissuade North Korea’s aggression and at the same time enhance inter-Korean economic cooperation. This will ensure practicality, reason, and wisdom in our North Korea policy.
