Sejong International Visiting Scholars Program 

 

 

The Sejong International Visiting Scholars Program is designed for overseas scholars, policy experts, analysts from 

higher education institutions and  research organizations, as well as mid-to senior-level government officials engaged 

in international relations and security affairs. This program provides  a unique opportunity to conduct independent research and expand academic networks at Sejong Institute, based in Seoul, South Korea.

 

Sejong Institute welcomes expressions of interest from international scholars whose research aligns with and contributes to the Institute's focus areas. Scholars may apply for visits ranging from 3 to 12 months.

 

Types of Visiting Scholars Programs

- Short-term Visiting Scholars: For stays of up to 3 months

Mid-term Visiting Scholars: For stays of up to 6 months

Long-term Visiting Scholars: For Stays of up to 12 months

 

Expected Contributions during the Program

​Active participation in regular seminars and workshops hosted by the Institute

- Writing policy briefs (15-page policy analysis), depending on the program duration

- Presenting research outcomes upon completion of the program

 

Services Offered to Visiting Scholars

​Shared office space with 1–2 other visiting scholars

- Access to the Sejong Institute’s facilities

- Visa support for the Republic of Korea (if needed)

 

Services Not Offered to Visiting Scholars

- ​Visiting scholars are required to secure independent funding for their accommodation and living expenses during 

  their stay. 

- Sejong Institute does not provide assistance with housing, travel, or living expenses. 

Please note that a residence fee may be applicable based on the duration of the stay. Residence fee costs $500 per

  month.

 

How to Apply

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for short-term (up to 3 months) to long-term (up to 12 months) appointments. Applicants must submit the following materials:

 

- ​A detailed description of the proposed research project

- A current resume or CV

- A letter of recommendation (if preferred)

- A statement of funding sources for the proposed visit

 

Conditions for Acceptance

The proposed research activities must align with the Sejong Institute’s areas of focus.
