Lee Jong-seok Senior Research Fellow Awarded Haegong Democracy and Peace Prize

On July10, Lee Jong-seok, a senior research fellow and the former Unification Minister, was awarded Haegong Democracy and Peace Prize (Peace and Unification Division). Former Unification Minister Lee Jong-seok was acknowledged for his efforts in promoting peace in the Korean Peninsula and expanding inter-Korean exchange and cooperation by creating peaceful inter-Korean atmosphere and organizing a peace forum in the Korean peninsula.
 

Haegong Democracy and Peace Prize was created this year by Gwangju City of Gyeonggi Province in commemoration of the centennial anniversary of the establishment of the Provisional Government of Korea. It has its purpose of re-examining the spirit and accomplishment of Haegong Shin Ik-hui, an independence activist and a significant political figure of Korea’s contemporary history, who was born in Gwangju City. The Prize was awarded to those who have practiced the spirit of Haegong. This time three recipients were selected from each division Peace and Unification Division, National Development Division, and Global Leader Division.
