The Sejong Institute invited William David Straub, former associate director at the Stanford Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (former U.S. Department of State Korea Desk) as Sejong-LS Fellow, a newly made post, from March 1, 2017.
Prior to this, the Institute established ‘Sejong-LS Fellowship’ inviting the high-profile figures or distinguished fellows with deep insight and experience to seek creative views and substantial assistance on strategic studies in the field of foreign affairs, national security, and unification and policy development. To this end, the Institute signed the MOU on Sejong-LS Fellowship with the LS Group, a global enterprise in the field of electricity, telecommunications, energy, material, machinery, and machine parts on February 23, 2017 at the LS Conference Room in Seoul.
The MOU on Sejong-LS Fellowship is the Sejong Institute’s first MOU with a private corporation, and it is a meaningful occasion in which the ‘academic-industrial cooperation’ is initiated at earnest in the field of diplomacy, national security, and unification.
David Straub has experience in dealing with U.S. policy on Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia, as well as academic insight through a long period of academic activities. He also has deep understanding and affinity with South Korea, and is expected to contribute to the Institute’s policy research capabilities participating in various research and discussions in the Institute as a Sejong-LS Fellow.
Through the Sejong-LS Fellowship, the Sejong Institute will strive to invigorate domestic discussions on major issues in the field of foreign affairs, national security, and unification and to strengthen communications with the international community via close cooperation network with relevant research institutes abroad.
