31 Years since the Rangoon Bombing – Unveiling of Memorial to Victims of the Rangoon Bombing
On the Memorial day, June 6, a statute unveiling ceremony was held in Rangoon, Myanmar, to mark the establishment of a memorial for the victims of the Rangoon bombing in 1983.
The ceremony was attended by the families of the victims and people from various government and non-government entities, including Byung-se Yun, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baeksoon Lee, Ambassador to Myanmar, Chul-hyun Kwon, Former Chairman of the Sejong Foundation and Chairman of the Rangoon Memorial Establishment Committee, and Daesung Song, President of the Sejong Institute. Each attendee laid a flower to commemorate the deaths of the 17 Rangoon victims, including Seok-jun Seo, then Deputy Prime Minister, and Beom-seok Lee, them Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Over the years, the Sejong Foundation had made donations and put utmost efforts for the establishment of the monument together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Un-ha Lee, executive director of the Sejong Foundation, and Daesung Song, President of the Sejong Foundation attended the ceremony.
The memorial was established near where North Korea’s terror attack took place in order to commemorate the deaths of the 17 government officials.
