At the Sejong Institute's 2nd Colloquium of 2024, Jae-hung Chung, Director of the Center for China Studies at the Sejong Institute, and Kyubeum Kim​, Visiting Research Fellow, presented "Key Analysis and Implications of Taiwan's 2024 Presidential Election".

The discussion was moderated by Jungsup Kim, Vice President of the Sejong Institute.

On January 13, 2024, the 16th Taiwanese Presidential and Vice-Presidential elections were held, and the Lai Ching-Te, Xiao Mei-chin​​; candidates of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) were elected, and the discourse on the election results and the public sentiment in Taiwan were confirmed.

There were in-depth discussions on the DPP's incumbent, Lai Ching-Te​, and the prospects for Taiwan in the future, as it could bring about changes in the U.S.-China strategic relationship and cross-strait relations.

In particular, as the U.S.-China strategic confrontation has intensified in the past few years, and both countries have favored different candidates, there is a view that the Taiwanese presidential election is a proxy war between the U.S. and China, and have identified key policies and implications related to this.​
