On Tuesday, September 20, 2016, the Sejong Institute held the 25th Colloquium of the year with the “Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB): Facts and Outlook” as the topic. Senior Research Fellow Kisoo Kim evaluated the AIIB in the context of Chinese domestic, and economic and diplomatic factors. He asserted that while China strives to overcome the limits of bilateral diplomacy such as lack of transparency in bilateral relations, inferiority in planning investment in resources and infrastructure, insufficient knowledge and experience in international finances by means of multilateral development banks, namely AIIB, to achieve the economic diplomacy goal of the expansion of economic influence, the possibility of success remains bleak due to the nature of multilateral development banks and the inhibition of member states. .

Dr. Kisoo Kim’s presentation paper was revised and published in the title of “[Policy Briefing 2016-25] Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB): Drivers, Details, and Outlook” on September 23, 2016.
