On Thursday, June 29, the Sejong Institute held its 12th colloquium of the year on the topic of “U.S-China Relations and Taiwan: Now and Future.” Visiting Research Fellow Kang Seok Ryul assessed the strategic trilateral relations among Taiwan, the U.S. and China under the Trump administration, and presented on the implications for South Korea given Taiwan’s deepening diplomatic and economic isolation and strategic dilemma. Dr. Kang analyzed that as the Taiwan issue will probably not be linked with the North Korean nuclear issue between the U.S. and China, it will not transpire into a decisive factor in influencing the security of the Korean Peninsula including the North Korean nuclear issue.
