The 7th Colloquium on “THAAD Deployment in Korea: How To Interpret It?”

The Sejong Institute held its 7th Colloquium this year on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, on the topic of “THAAD Deployment in Korea: How To Interpret It?” The colloquium, which was moderated by Hyun-ik Hong, director of the Department of Security Strategy Studies, began with Vice President of the Research Planning Division, Sang Hyun Lee’s presentation of his research findings on the issue, which was then followed by a vibrant discussion and a Q&A session. The participants including Chairman Joon-woo Park, President Chang Soo Jin and other research fellows at the institute engaged in an active discussion about the advantages and disadvantages, foreign policy strategies and scenarios, and both regional and global implications and consequences of possible deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system in the Republic of Korea from a variety of different theoretical and policy perspectives.
