This volume is the Japanese edition of the author’s 2023 book, Why Should We Become a Nuclear Power, originally published by Medici Media.

In this work, the author presents a systematic argument covering the following themes:​ ▲ reasons South Korea should actively consider developing its own nuclear deterrent​, ▲ causes of failure and structural obstacles to North Korea’s denuclearization​, ▲ North Korea’s nuclear threat to the South and the resulting security crisis​, ▲ limitations of United States extended deterrence​, ▲ tactical nuclear redeployment, and nuclear sharing options​, ▲ domestic and external conditions and checklist required for pursuing an independent nuclear capability​, ▲ assessment of South Korea’s nuclear capacity​, a four stage approach to inter Korean nuclear balance and nuclear reduction​, ▲strategies for persuading the international community regarding South Korea’s independent nuclear option​, the need for bold, insightful leadership and bipartisan cooperation. The book also offers a systematic rebuttal to the principal arguments advanced against South Korea’s nuclear armament.​

For the Japanese edition, the author has added a special chapter addressing “Why Japan Should Seriously Consider Possessing Its Own Nuclear Weapons,” written specifically for Japanese readers.​

The book was translated by Kang Youngji, President of the East Asia Research Institute, who has long maintained a deep interest in Korean Peninsula affairs. A recommendation is provided by Daisuke Kondo(近藤大介), Deputy Editor in Chief of Shukan Gendai and a specialist on East Asian affairs.​
