On Thursday, August 24, the Japan’s East
Asia Research Institute and the Hanbaek Foundation of Unification held 2017
international symposium on East Asia. With the topic of “Rapidly Changing
Political Landscape in East Asia and the Prospects for Peace Regime and
Unification on the Korean Peninsula. The participants discussed the North Korean
nuclear problem, the Northeast Asian political landscape, directions for peace
and cooperation in Northeast Asia, and Korean unification. Director Cheong
Seong-Chang and LS-Sejong Fellow David Straub from the Institute presented “the
pending issues and tasks in inter-Korean relations after the inauguration of
President Moon Jae-in” and “the pending issues and tasks after the inauguration
of President Donald Trump” respectively.
