On Thursday, September 21, the Sejong Institute co-hosted 2017 Shizuoka Symposium on ROK-Japan Relations with the Korea Foundation, sponsored by the Shizuoka Shimbun, University of Shizuoka, and the Consulate General of Korea in Yokohama on the topic of “New ROK-Japan Relations and New Beginnings.” The symposium was held to make the officials of Prefecture-level aware of the significance of ROK-Japan relations, foster a public opinion amicable to Korea, and seek Japan’s cooperation on South Korea’s policy on Northeast Asia and preparations for unification. Experts in the bilateral relations from various fields including the Institute’s President Jin Chang Soo, Ambassador for Public Diplomacy Park Enna, Sejong Institute Senior Research Fellow Lee Jong-seok, Professor Emeritus Izumi Hajime of University of Shizuoka, and Professor Osawa Bunko of Chiba University of Technology participated in the event to discuss the establishment of order in East Asia and the measures to develop ROK-Japan relations.
