On Tuesday, September 26, the Sejong Institute held the 6th Sejong Policy Forum of 2017 on the topic of “ROK-China Relations after the THAAD Deployment: Challenges and Outlook.” Beginning with the Institute’s President Jin Chang Soo’s opening remarks, the forum comprised of two sessions. In the first session, Dr. Chung Jaehung of the Sejong Institute and Professor Choo Jaewoo of Kyung Hee University presented on the assessment of ROK-China relations after the U.S. deployment of THAAD in South Korea. Research Fellow Lee Seong-hyon of the Sejong Institute and Professor Lee Dong Min of Dankook University addressed the challenges and measures for improvement of ROK-China relations after the THAAD deployment in the second session.
This forum’s participants include Kim Min-seok (journalist, Joong-Ang Ilbo), Kim Jae-chul (professor, Catholic University of Korea), Kim Han-kwon (professor, Korea National Diplomatic Academy), among other experts in the relevant field as well as government officials from the Ministry of National Defense. The participants pondered on China’s responses and outlook and ruminated on conditions and solutions to improve relations between South Korea and China.
