On Wednesday, June 22, 2016, the Sejong Institute visited China's Global Times (Huanqiu Shibao) in Beijing and held the first Sejong Institute-Huanqiu Shibao Strategic Dialogue. President Chang Soo Jin and our research fellows Dr. Seong-chang Cheong, Dr. Kisoo Kim, Dr. Jaehung Chung, and Dr. Seong-Hyon Lee participated in the closed-session dialogue for discussion on a variety of issues pertinent to the ROK-China bilateral relationship, such as North Korea's nuclear proliferation issue and the regional order in Northeast Asia. As a subsidiary of Peeple's Daily newspaper group in China, Global Times (Huanqiu Shibao) specializes in reporting international affairs and is well known for its op-ed pieces on the Korean peninsula issues. The Sejong Institute and Global Times signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in order to promote closer cooperation and exchange between the two organizations.
