On February 19, 2016, the Sejong Institute cohosted with the Korea Foundation its 1st Symposium on ROK-Japan Relations this year in Fukuoka, Japan. On the subject of “Prospects and Priorities in the Korea-Japan Relations after the Bilateral Summit,” the symposium commenced with keynote speeches given by President Chang Soo Jin of the Sejong Institute and President Hyun-seok Yu of the Korea Foundation. Mr. Jin-woong Park, consul-general of the Republic of Korea in Fukuoka also gave his congratulatory remarks during the opening session.

The first session of the symposium was moderated by Mr. Yoshitaka Nagamori, Chairman of RKB Mainichi Broadcasting Corporation. During the first session, Professor Okonogi Masao (professor emeritus at Keio University) presented on the topic of “The Prospects of Korea-Japan Relations: Toward a Neighborly Relations Sharing Strategic Gains,” and Mr. Tai Hwan Kwon (visiting research fellow at the Sejong Institute) presented on the topic of “Korea-Japan cooperation in the Aftermath of North Korea’s 4^th Nuclear Weapons and Missiles Test.” The follow-up discussion panel included Professor Kikuchi Yuji (Kyushu University) and Professor Jae-jung Chung (University of Seoul).

The second session was conducted in a roundtable format moderated by President Chang Soo Jin of the Sejong Institute, and included panelists President Kikkawa Gen of the Hiroshima Peace Institute, Asahi Shimbun columnist Tetsuya Hakoda, senior research fellow Myon woo Lee at the Sejong Institute, and Ho Shin, research fellow at the Research Center for Korean Studies in Kyushu University.
