Sejong Institute Participates in 2016 Singapore Forum
Chairman Joon-woo Park and our research fellow Seong-Hyon Lee were invited to participate in the second edition of the Singapore Forum held on April 1-2, 2016. The Singapore Forum started last year commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of Singapore’s independence, and is intended to contribute to the establishment of a Forum on Asia that is focused on geostrategic, politico-economic and governance issues that can have an impact on regional development and stability. The Singapore Forum is organized and supported by the S Rajaratnam Endowment. Beginning this year, Chairman Joon-woo Park and Dr. Seong-Hyon Lee will serve and participate as the Forum’s International Advisory Board Members.
This year’s Forum was held on the theme of “Asia and the World—Shared Opportunity, Shared Prosperity,” which began with an opening remark given by former Singapore Deputy Minister Wong Kan Seng. Many experts and distinguished guests—Dr. Jeffrey Bader, former senior director for Asian Affairs at the U.S. National Security Council, former Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, former Japanese Defense Minister Satoshi Morimoto, former Indonesian Foreign Minister Dr. Marty Natalegawa, Alibaba Group’s Vice President Gao Hongbing, and Andrew Sheng, former Chairman of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, and President Hahm Chaibong of the Asan Institute for Policy Studies—participated in the forum and engaged in active discussions on the pressing issues surrounding the region.
