The Sejong Institute held its 8th Visiting Fellow Seminar on January 12, 2011, with Dr. Do-hyung Kim. Dr. Kim presented various preconditions for the renegotiation of Korea-Japan FTA which was suspended in 2004. He explained the renegotiation background, intermediate and long-term effects of the Korea-Japan FTA, five basic principles for this FTA, the necessity of adjustment of different interests between the two countries and between corporations, and tasks to build up mutual trust. It was a comprehensive and in-depth analysis and suggestion of policy alternatives. After the presentation, there were earnest questions and answers on the comparison of the Korea-Japan FTA with the Korea-China FTA and politico-economic roles of the United States.
