Subject: The Likely Continuance of the North Korean Political System and Tasks for Our North Korea Policy

The Sejong Institute hosted the North Korea Policy Symposium at the Korea Press Center in Seoul, on June 28, 2011, to discuss the “the Likely Continuance of the North Korean Regime and Tasks for Our North Korea Policy”. The symposium started with Dr. Daesung Song’s opening address (President of the Sejong Institute) and Ahn Byeongjik’s keynote speech (Chairman of the Zeitgeist Institute). The symposium proceeded with two panels and a lively question and answer session. The symposium provided a setting for participants to gain a more objective understanding of the true nature of North Korea, while actively searching for the right direction in our North Korea policy.

The 1st panel presided by Dr. Yeongsu Kim, discussed . Research fellow from Gyeonggi Research Institute, Mr. Gwangju Son, presented on the topic “How far are we into North Korea’s three generation hereditary rule”. Dr. Gyeong-seob Oh, a research fellow from the Sejong Institute, followed up with a presentation on “the significant symbiosis between the essence of the North Korean regime and its provocation toward the South”.

The 2nd panel presided by Dr. Ho Yeol Yoo of Korea University discussed the “Tasks for the North Korea Policy”. Mr. Jinuk Choi, research fellow from the Korea Institute for National Unification, presented on “The result of President Lee Myung-bak’s North Korea policy and future direction”, followed by Korea Development Institute’s Dr. Seok Lee’s presentation on “Proposals for ensuring the effectiveness of aid and interaction with North Korea”.
