On October 27-28, 2011, the Sejong Institute co-hosted the 2011 Joint International Conference with the Council on Korea-US Security Studies, International Council on Korean Studies, Korea Institute for Maritime Strategy, Bando Air Agencies, The Hwajeong Peace Foundation, and the Dong-A Ilbo on the subject of "the Changing Situtation in North Korea: Opportunities for ROK-US Cooperative Policies". 

The International Conference began with opening remarks from Council Co-Chairman General (ret.) Jae-Chang Kim (Former CFC Vice Commander) and General (ret.) John H. Tillelli, Jr. (Former CFC Commander). On the 27th, the US Ambassador to Korea delivered a luncheon keynote speech and ROK Minister of Defense Kim Kwan-jin gave a dinner speech. On the 28th, Gen. James D. Thurman (CFC Commander) delivered a luncheon speech.

The subject for each panel is as follows.  Panel I: North Korea's  Regime Succession - the Political  and Economic  Dimensions, Panel 2: The North Korean Military Threat and Its Implications  for Negotiating Strategy, Panel 3: North Korea's Relations with China and Russia, Panel 4:  North Korea's Policies toward the ROK and the  United States, and Panel 5:  ROK-U.S. Cooperation in Dealing with North Korea.
