On March 14, 2012, the Sejong Institute hosted the North Korea Policy Symposium at the Korea Press Center in Seoul, to discuss “the Durability of the Turbulent North Korean Regime and its South Korea Policy.” The symposium started with Dr. Dae Sung Song’s opening address (President of the Sejong Institute) and In-taek Hyun’s keynote speech (Former Minster of Unification). The symposium proceeded with two panels and a lively question and answer session. The symposium provided a setting for participants to gain a more objective understanding of the true nature of North Korea, while actively searching for the right direction in our North Korea policy.

The 1st panel presided by Dr. Dongseong Kim (Chung Ang University) and initiated with Dr. Gyeong-seob Oh's (Research Fellow, Sejong Institute) presentation on the topic of “The Factors Behind Change and Stabilization of the North Korean Regime”. Dr. Jinha Kim, a research fellow from the Korea Institute for National Unification, followed up with a presentation on “The Durability of Kim Jong-un's Regime: Comparing the Regime with Kim Jong-il's Reign”.

The 2nd panel was presided by Dr. Ho Yeol Yoo of Korea University and th panel started with “Kim Jong-un's South Korea Policy: Similarities and Differences from Previous Times” by Dr. Seonghun Chun, research fellow from the Korea Institute for National Unification. The presentation was followed by Korea Defense Institute for Defense Analyses Dr. Jinmu Kim’s presented on “Inter-Korea Relations Under Kim Jong-un and Our North Korea Policy Measures”.
