2017 Beijing Conference on Northeast Asia Multilateral Cooperation

On Thursday, September 7, the Sejong Institute and China Institute of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR) jointly held 2017 Beijing Conference sponsored by the ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This event, with the purpose of intensifying the existing collaborative research and identifying new research areas of cooperation, assembled experts from both countries in the field of environment and international relations and the participants discussed on “Multilateral Cooperation on Environment in Northeast Asia: Tasks and Prospects.”

 

At the first session, “South Korea and China’s Role for Multilateral Cooperation in Northeast Asia,” Jo Yanghyeon (Korea National Diplomatic Academy), Sun Ru (CICIR), Won Dong Wook (Dong-A University), and Chen Xiangyang (CICIR) each gave a presentation on the initiative and orientation regarding the Moon Jae-in administration’s “Responsible Northeast Asia Plus Community” and the two countries role in regional multilateral security cooperation. The second session, “International Cooperation on Environment: Tasks and Prospects,” began with presentations from Lee Hyun-Woo (Korea Environment Institute), Xue Dayuan (Minzu University of China), Chu Jang Min (Korea Environment Institute), and Dong Zhanfeng (Chinese Academy for Environmental Planning). They discussed the tasks and prospects for Northeast Asian multilateral cooperation in biodiversity and the cooperation and strengthening measures in responding to the air pollution in the region.
