[2017 Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity] South Korea’s Multilateral Diplomacy: Evaluation and Future Strategy for Track 1.5 Network Building on NAPCI

On Friday, June 2, the Sejong Institute hosted a session on “South Korea’s Multilateral Diplomacy: Evaluation and Future Strategy for Track 1.5 Network Building on NAPCI” as part of the Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity 2017 at International Convention Center Jeju. 

The session began with President Jin Chang Soo’s opening speech and welcoming remarks by Chairman Park Joon-woo, followed by a keynote speech from the Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Lee Jeong-Kyu. Presentations from Director General of Policy Planning Ma Sang-Yoon of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vice President for Research Planning Lee Sang Hyun of the Sejong Institute, and EU Ambassador Michael Reiterer to the Republic of Korea presented on the achievements of the Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative (NAPCI) for the last 4 years and discussed future directions. 

As for this session, President Sung Key Yong of Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety, President Park Kwang Kook of Korea Environment Institute, and Professor Lim Jong-in of Graduate School of Information Security at Korea University participated as discussants, and many experts related to NAPCI partook in the session as panelists, Park Yoon-won (Bees Inc.), Chu Jang Min (Korea Environment Institute), Na Sang Deok (Director for Policy Planning and Coordination, Ministry of Foreign Affairs), among others. The participants shared views on the necessity of NAPCI and future tasks.
