2016 Sejong Institute—Yanbian University
Korean Peninsula Research Center Joint Academic Conference was held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Yanbian University in China, on the theme of ‘Changing Situations in Northeast Asia and ROK-China Cooperation.’ The Conference was conducted in three closed sessions under the following subjects: ‘Changing Situations in Northeast Asia after the North Korean Nuclear Test,’ ‘International Sanctions and North Korean Economy,’ and ‘ROK-China Cooperation for Northeast Asian Peace.’

 

In Session 1, ‘Changing Situations in Northeast Asia after the North Korean Nuclear Test,’ Hyun-ik Hong, our Senior Research Fellow, presented on ‘Korean Peninsula after North Korea’s 4th Nuclear Test,’ followed by Seong-chang Cheong, our Department Director of Unification Strategy Studies, who presented on ‘Assessment of the 7th Workers’ Party Congress of North Korea.’

 

Session 2, ‘International Sanctions and North Korean Economy,’ featured three presenters from the Yanbian University, Jin Qiangyi, Director of International Politics Research Center, Cui Wen, Director of Northeast Asia Economy Research Center, and Lin Jinshu, Professor of International Commerce, expounding on ‘North Korea-China Relationship after the 4th Nuclear Test,’ ‘Status of North Korean Economy after International Sanctions,’ and ‘Status of North Korea-China Trade after International Sanctions,’ respectively.

 

In the final session, President Chang Soo Jin of the Sejong Institute moderated the discussion on ‘ROK-China Cooperation for Northeast Asian Peace.’ As designated discussants for the conference, Un-Chul Yang, the Vice President, Sang Hyun Lee, Vice President of Research Planning Division, and Jaehung Chung, Research Fellow, of the Sejong Institute joined Piao Dongxun, Deputy Director of North-South Korea Research Center, and An Guoshan, Director of North Korean Economy Research Center, of the Yanbian Univeristy to engage in the active talk.
