On November 16 and 17, the Sejong Institute held the Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Forum jointly with the ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Korea National Diplomacy Academy at the Grand Hilton Seoul. The forum began with a series of remarks – opening remarks by Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha, welcoming remarks by Chancellor Cho Byung-jae of Korea National Diplomacy Academy and President Jin Chang Soo of the Sejong Institute, and a congratulatory address by President Evgeny Petrovich Bazhanov of the Diplomatic Academy of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. In pursuit of the new Korean administration’s policy task of “establishing a Northeast Asia Platform for Peace and Cooperation,” the Forum was to discuss the current regional security landscape and to seek ways to invigorate multilateral cooperation – with the focus on the areas that require regional cooperation such as environment, cyberspace, and nuclear safety, not to mention the regional security.
