Sanghyun Lee, president of Sejong Institute, attended an open seminar organized by George Washington University's Institute of Korean Studies (GWIKS) and participated the presentation and discussion under the theme of "Discussion on Korea's Nuclear Armament." With Youngjoon Kim, professor at Korea National Defense University, Jisoo Kim, professor at George Washington University's Korean Studies Institute, Yeonho Kim, Vice President, Jenny Town, chief editor at 38North, and Ankit Panda, senior researcher at Carnegie Endowment for International Peace attended the panel.

Public opinion in favor of Korea's independent nuclear armament is higher than ever in South Korea due to North Korea's nuclear threat, growing China's risk, and global security instability such as the Ukraine War. But independent nuclear development or tactical nuclear redeployment is to costly for South Korea, whereas the nuclear sharing is not a complete solution to secutiry instability. In the end, strenthening expansionary deterrence and strenthening Korea's independent deterrence are the realistic countermeasures for Korea.
