On September 23, 2019, the Sejong Institute held the 2019 Seoul-Washington Forum (The Washington Conference) under the title of “Prospects for Peace on the Korean Peninsula.” The panels from Seoul included: Chairman Baek Jong Chun and President Paik Haksoon of the Sejong Institute; Woo Jung-Yeop, Director of the Center for American Studies of the Sejong Institute; Kim Ki-jung, Professor at Yonsei University; and You Jong-il, Dean of KDI School of Public Policy and Management. The experts and government officials from Washington included: James Lindsay, Senior Vice President of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR); Scott Snyder, Senior Fellow at CFR; Robert Einhorn, former U.S. State Department's special adviser for nonproliferation and arms control; Former US Ambassadors to Korea, Amb. Thomas Hubbard, Kath Stephens, Amb. Mark Lippert; and Prof. Victor Cha of Georgetown University. The panels from both countries evaluated the current stage of the U.S.-ROK alliance and Northeast Asian security, and engaged in a profound discussion on cooperation strategies to strengthen regional security and achieve denuclearization.
