Sejong-Foundation on Asia-Pacific Peace Studies Meeting

On March 18, Sejong Institute held an academic exchange event with the Taipei-based "Foundation on Asia-Pacific Peace Studies". The think tank is affiliated with Taiwan's current ruling Democratic Progressive Party and is chaired by Hsu Hsin-liang, the godfather of Taiwan's democratic movement.

 

In November 2022, the Sejong Institute signed an MOU for cooperation with the Foundation on Asia-Pacific Peace Studies.

From the Foundation on Asia-Pacific Peace Studies, Hsu Hsin-liang, Chairman of the Foundation, Tung Li-wen, 

Chief Executive, Tang Ka-tai, Deputy Executive, Kuo Yu-jen, Director of the Institute of China and Asia Studies at National Sun Yat-sen University, Luo Zheng-Fang, Chairman of GeoSat Aerospace & Technology Corporation and numerous other research fellow from the Foundation joined the Event.

 

The meeting with the Asia-Pacific Peace Research Fund was followed by private meetings at the National Defense Research Institute and the China Economic Research Institute. In meeting with National Defense Research Institute, Ming-Chi Chen Chief Executive, President Ming-Shih Shen of National Security Institute, Dr. Yi-Suo Tzeng, Chan-Hsi Wang, Tsun-Yen Wang, (Wu Tzu Li, Chih Hao Lin, and Che-Chuan Lee joined meeting and discussed the military situation on the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia, as well as defense cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Taiwan.

 

The Chung-Hua Institute for Economic Research (CIER) is an institute similar to combined KDI and KIEP from South Korea, which focuses on Taiwan's economy and trade, cross-strait economic relations, and multilateral economic cooperation. Vice President Shin-Hong Chen, Senior Deputy Director Huai-Shing Yen, Dr. Da-Nien Liu, Dr. Kristy Hsu, Dr. Shu-Fei Yang, Dr. Ming-Min Yang, and many other researchers attended the event.​
