SUBJECT: International Conference on North Korean Human Rights

On October 21, 2010, the Sejong Institute participated in the <2010 International Conference on North Korean Human Rights> in Washington, D.C. as a co-host together with the North Korean Democratization Network and the US National Endowment for Democracy. The conference theme was "the Strategy for Improvement of Human Rights and Democracy in North Korea." The topics discussed at this conference include: How to improve human rights and democratization in North Korea, three-generation patrimonial power succession, economic situation after the currency reform, current status and effectiveness of radio broadcast to North Korea, and the role of North Korean defectors in the intelligence collection. Many international experts on North Korean issues and human rights activists participated in this conference including Dae-sung Song (president of the Sejong Institute), Carl Gushman (NED chairman), Robert King (North Korean human rights ambassador of the State Department), and Se-heui Yoo (chairman of the North Korean Democratization Network).
