  Academic Activities

 

■ The 1st Roundtable

On January 11, the Sejong Institute invited General Tousheng Chang, Sejong-KT&G Fellow, and held the first roundtable of the year on Kim Jong-Un’s recent visit to China.  

■ The 2nd Roundtable

On January 11, the Sejong Institute invited Dr. Young-hoon Lee, senior research fellow of SK Research Institute for SUPEX Management, and held the second roundtable of the year on the subject of “Outlook for North Korea’s Economic Policy and ICT-based Inter-Korean Cooperation.”   


■ The 1st Sejong Policy Forum

On January 23, the Sejong Institute held the first Sejong Policy Forum for the year 2019 on the topic of “Seeking a Roadmap for Peace and Denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.” Professor Koh Yoo-hwan (Dongguk University), Professor Jun Bong-geun (Korea National Diplomatic Academy), Research Fellow Suh Bohyuk (Korea Institute for National Unification, KINU), Research Fellow Hong Min (KINU)…. 

■ The 3rd Roundtable

On January 28, the Sejong Institute invited Prof. Kyung-young Cheong of Hanyang University, and held the 3rd roundtable on the subject of “Stratetegies for ROK’s Parallel Pursuit of Alliance and Multilateral Security.”    


■ The 1st Sejong Colloquium

On January 3, the Sejong Institute began the first colloquium for the year 2019 on the topic of “Evaluating North Korea’s Chairman Kim Jong-un’s New Year Address and Forecasting North Korea’s Domestic and Foreign Policy.” Vice President for Research Planning Cheong Seong-Chang presented on the topic, with Senior Research Fellow Lee Jong-seok as the moderator, and Research Fellows Lee Seong-hyon and Choi Eunjoo participated as discussants. 

■ The 2nd Sejong Colloquium

On January 8, the second colloquium of the year was held on the topic of “U.S. Global Strategy and the Strategies on Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia.” Director Lee Daewoo of the Department of Security Strategy Studies put forth his views on the topic. This was followed by Research Fellows Lee Seong-hyon's and Woo Jung-Yeop’s comments.    


■ The 3rd Sejong Colloquium

The third colloquium of the year was held on January 22, under the topic of “Sticking Points for the Second DPRK-U.S. Summit and South Korea’s Response. ” Director Hong Hyun-ik of the Department of Diplomatic Strategy Studies gave a presentation on the topic. This colloquium was moderated by Vice President for Research Planning Cheong Seong-Chang. ”

National Strategy is a policy-oriented academic journal published quarterly by the Sejong Institute, providing a scholarly venue for active policy discussion and debate in order to advance national interests of the Republic of Korea and offer more appropriate and relevant national strategies amid the rapidly changing international political and economic order. We welcome and appreciate submission of papers with policy implications and academic contribution on relevant themes and topics.
